Nutrition Coaching

What is nutrition coaching?

“Nutrition coaching is about people. How they think. How they feel. How they live. Why they act the way they do. As a nutrition coach, you work with real people and their real struggles, all within the messiness of their real lives. In other words, effective nutrition coaching has more to do with behaviour change psychology than it does with nutrition science.”

— Krista Scott-Dixon, Alisa Bowman, Ryan Maciel from Precision Nutrition

This is not a meal plan, but a partnership centered on helping you make peace with food and your body while implementing healthy habits to optimize your nutrition, whether it’s for everyday life and longevity or athletic performance.

In a session, we might discuss calories, macros, portion sizes, learning to read food labels, how to eat intuitively, health benefits of certain foods, food journals, and eating for fuel and pleasure, to name a few. But we might not even talk about food at all, focusing instead on relationships, sleep, stress, work, kids, body image, and all the other things that affect how and what we eat.

There are no good or bad foods, only good and better choices.

Coach Kate Czerwenka

Kate has a long and complicated relationship with food and has lived in a body that has ranged in sizes. Initially, food was the enemy and source of guilt, something to be restricted and moralized, which led to nearly 15 years of chronic dieting in the pursuit of the thin ideal.

After becoming a certified nutrition coach through Precision Nutrition, Kate began to preach the importance of a balanced diet consisting of moderation, variety, and sustainability while slowly transitioning away from diet culture. She now addresses health from a weight inclusive approach that stresses behaviours and habits that nourish the body rather than deprive it so you can feel good in your body every day, regardless of its size.

Kate will help you determine what a balanced diet looks like for YOU. This is not a meal plan, but rather a partnership that will help you live confidently and happily in your body while fostering healthy habits that promote performance and longevity. Food isn’t good or bad and it isn’t just simply fuel. Instead, it’s a social connection, it’s how we identify, it’s part of our culture, and it’s pretty delicious!

It Starts with a 60 Minute Assessment

This is your hour to learn about yourself and food in a non-judgmental environment to evaluate where you’re thriving and struggling. Expect to answer questions about your goals, food history, current nutrition, lifestyle, and external factors that may be affecting how and what you eat. Afterwards, your coach will offer recommendations for areas to improve to help get you started.

Assessments are $100 and can be conducted in-person in downtown Vancouver or you can meet with your coach virtually from the comfort of your home!

After the assessment, your coach may recommend further assistance with follow up sessions. Depending on your needs, services provided during the session could include:

■ Grocery store tours

■ Recipes

■ Learning how to eat intuitively without guilt or shame

■ Accountability check-ins

■ Body image coaching

■ Optimizing macronutrients & micronutrients
